8:46 pm - From WCPO
"Update @ 2/12/2007 8:22:02 PM: Up to three inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain will be on the ground Tuesday morning. "

There damn well better be because I still have 15 pages of to read for AP US and a chapter to translate for Latin. Also I think I lost my AP govt. book.

So I had my college meeting with Mr. Meegan Friday and he mentioned the possibility of Barak Obama coming to speak at Summit while he's in town. Today I was loitering in Dr. White's office after school, lobbying for a snow day, and I mentioned this to her, thinking it couldn't really be that likely since half the people he would be speaking to wont' be voting in 2008. Butttttt Dr. White said that if Obama doesn't come this time he's in town, then definitely next time. So holy shit. Barak Obama's coming to my school.

Dear baby Jesus, send us some snow.

Today in Mr. Kelly's class we were discussing kissing and palmers and relics and Mr. Kelly started talking about how our school has bits and pieces of dead saints in the chapel. No one in the class (including AT, Queen Of The Summit) had ever heard this before and was pretty grossed out and skeptical of REAL bits of REAL saints just lying around the school. So Jimmy Pat took us on a field trip.
To the right of the altar, behind the nun grave, there's a case with round things that look like cameo buttons. But no. Those are actually bits of bone from such greats as St. Thomas Aquinas and the bastard child of St. Augustine. The left overs from Sister Julie are in the gold house shaped thing under the tabernacle in the big front altar.
At one point the church made their money selling bits of holiness. And by bits of holiness I mean bits of holy people. How selling dead people is ethical, I have no idea. But the Church (And evidentally, the Summit) was okay with it.
Mr. Kelly then led us down into the bowels of the school to see the vaults where the coffins of the dead nuns are kept. From there we went through a doorway blocked off by some chairs into this tiny corridor where the original cornerstone used to be. Mr. Kelly proceeded to call the nuns dumb. And that's how I spent B bell today.

Mr. Kelly was telling us that Dr. White wants to organize a group of high schoolers to take the younger kids around the school and teach them about the history and things like dead people in the chapel. I think it would be cool.
On a funnier note, the lady buried to the right of the altar bought the entire school for $20,000, which is now what we pay the school in one year.

I have finished my prefile application for Convention and I am so effing excited it's ridiculous.
Saturday is the last swim meet, but it's also a day I'm supposed to be in Columbus for OJCL stuff. Eheu.

8:11 pm - You know I've turned into a tool
I got mail from Tufts. Here are some statistics about the class of 2010. Just in case you were wondering.

Acceptance rate: 27%
Average SATs:702, 703, 696
Average ACT: 31
Average class rank: Top 7%
1 out of 5 = captain of a varsity team (Psh, what?)

I'm kinda freaking out and kinda excited. Hearing from the seniors hearing from colleges hasn't been encouraging. But I'm already pumped for senior year. I'm taking AP english, AP latin, Greek, AP Psych, either anatomy or AP environment, and calc. Holy hell.
Since I'm doubling language next year I think I'm also going to apply to colleges as an intended Classics major, then switch later when I realize the classics are worthless unless you're going to law school. (Apologies to the JCL)

Over Christmas break I'm starting on my application for Northwestern's summer program. Between 6 weeks in Evanston and a week at UT for nationals I don't know if I'm going to be working this summer. (Nationals will be totally necessary after I win my officer elections at state convention in March. Talk me up at Madeira, Mike) Besides the whole not having any money thing, that's not so bad. I'll be a poor college student for a few months.

Speaking of PUMPED... Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
Lamest name ever, but Harry's going to die. Sorry.

Yay. Merry Christmas.

When get married, I'm walking down the aisle to Journey. There is going to be a string quartet playing Don't Stop Believin'. This is not a debatable issue.

There's not really much to talk about, besides Kairos.
Kairos was a good experience, but by the end of it, I was ready to go home. I had enough bonding. I think I was sick of being around myself.
Even if we spend 4 days talking about Jesus and family, I'm still going to see a lot of people the same way.But there are a lot of people who I see a lot differently, in a good way. So that's good. My small group plans on doing monthly lunches, so hopefully that will hold up because my group was sweet.

Did you know that old, bitter, male hippos will eat other male hippo's babies if they don't hide them? It's incredibly depressing.

8:33 pm - Dear Maggie
I haven't posted in forever and Maggie complained yesterday. I haven't had any time at home all weekend.
Friday I ended up going to the football game in the rain. Then I ended up leaving and getting Penn Station. After Penn Station we went back to school to get Mike's car and it was totally dark. Turns out the game was stopped because the power went out at school. But I went to Mike's with him and his Maderia friends and we hung out.

Saturday we went to service at Beech Acres which was freezing. But I have a pumpkin and some service hours, so it's okay. Also, the night before Mike invited me to Gretchen's, so I went to that Saturday night.
Mike picked me up for Gretchen's and we ended up driving up and down 71 and being lost for an hour before my dad called us and gave us directions out of east bufu. I'm really glad I went to Gretchens. No one there had any idea I was coming (including Gretchen) but when we walked in everyone was completely unphased.
So my curfew is midnight. At midnight I was still at Gretchens. I called home and told them I would just leave with Mike, but we ended up not leaving until 2. Then we got lost again. So I finally get home at 3 and go to put my key in the lock and the kitchen light turns on and my mom is standing there freaking out because I didn't call. I set the clocks back, I was really only 2 hours late, so it's okay.

Sunday was Shantytown which was amazing. We got there at 12 to start setting up our boxes. Maggie, Ellen, and I built our Love Nest. A little later some social workers came to talk to us about adoption and foster care because the theme this year was orphans. We continued constructing our homes and then walked to Rookwood. We had pieces of cardboard with statistics about homeless children and people honked and waved and gave us funny looks. When we got to Rookwood we panhandled for donations and talked to people about the project. A guy outside Starbucks told us we couldn't change the world by nickle nad diming people and starting ranting about Che Guavara and the Russian Revolution. He did eventually give us money.
After Rookwood we watched a movie about the gener imbalance in China because of the child quota laws and preference to boys. Mr. Johnson also showed us the movie of the little girl he's adopting in November from China. She's so cute. By 11 we were in our boxes attempting to sleep, but it was freezing and the light came in through the door and I think I got like 2 hours of sleep. Around 2 am I was telling myself I wouldn't do it again just because I was so tired, but it was definitely worth it. In the morning we got Panera and panhandled around school in carline. Overall we made around $575.

Now I am in bed and I'm not leaving until 7 tomorrow morning. I am so tired. Ahhhh.
But yeah. I'm generally pretty happy these days.

9:43 pm - The pursuit of happiness
Today in english class we were asked what the pursuit of happiness means to us. The best answer I could come up with was "I want to go to college because I've convinced myself it will help me figure out what I'm going to do with my life"
Mr. Kelly followed this with "A life unexamined is not worth living."

I love my english class, but today it made me really think about my life right now. I am not happy at all. I have no idea how to start to fix anything. I'm really confused.

I am looking forward to swimming. I met the new coach today and he kinda seemed like a tool, but at least we have a coach this year. He was kinda disappointed with our lack of a team, but he wants to start practicing as soon as he can get the keys to the weight room at St. Bernard. I don't think we get actual pool time until November.

I quit at Brueggers. I work this Sunday from 7-3 (Just in case, you want to, you know, visit me during my glorious second to last shift. I'll make you herby turkeys and supreme clubs on plain softwiches with honey mustard) and next Sunday then I am doneeeee. No more 6am mornings. BUT I'm also working during the Bengals Steelers game on Sunday boo.

8:26 pm - Yay
I'm quitting my job.
The managers are lazy, the customers are rude, we're understaffed, and I'm pretty much everyone's bitch. It's a fun time. Tuesday after school I will march in there, collect my paycheck, and put in my two weeks notice. Hmph.
My mother doesn't want me to get another job, so I probably won't look for a new one for a while. I don't want to just not work all year though. I guess it kinda depends on school. God know's what I'll do about school. Ugh.
It's 8:30 and I'm ready for bed. I'm so exhausted. I couldn't make it through my homework without a nap this afternoon. Since I definitely got so much homework done yesterday after the St. X game, which was so disappointing. Boo.

I really want these - Anything from a store called The Moccasin House has to be good I'm like 0.2 seconds away from ordering them.
